Hella Hirsch was the daughter of a transport worker and a housewife, born in Posen on March 6, 1921. She attended school from 1927 to 1937 and then took commercial training. Unable to find a job in the commercial sector, however, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Fritz Hirschfeld. From the mid-1930s, she and Uschi Littmann were active members of a youth group in the Ring Association of Jewish Youth. The group was led by Judith Kozminski, a friend of Herbert Baum. From June 1941, Hella Hirsch was forced to work at the Aceta chemical works, a branch of IG Farben in Berlin-Rummelsburg. She and her sister Alice Hirsch, who was two years younger, joined the resistance group led by Herbert Baum. She was arrested on July 8, 1942, and sentenced to death by the “People’s Court” on December 10, 1942. Hella Hirsch was murdered in Berlin-Plötzensee on March 4, 1943.
