From where we have come: Auschwitz and After

An exhibition by the International Auschwitz Committee in cooperation with the International Youth Meeting Center in Oświęcim/Auschwitz and the German Resistance Memorial Center, under the auspices of the Swedish Embassy in Berlin during the Swedish EU Council Presidency 2023.

What effects do anti-Semitism, war and dictatorship have on people? How do the victims live with their pain and losses, their anger and their rage? Will life return to normal, at some point? What will happen to the perpetrators? And the persistent question in these times of another new war, and the old-new hatred in Europe: Do we learn from history?

Together with the exhibition's curator Michèle Déodat (*1959 in Paris), Christoph Heubner, writer and Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, looks into these questions. The exhibition has been developed from interviews and exchanges with survivors of Auschwitz and visitors to the scenes of the genocide in Auschwitz and Birkenau, from images, memories, poems and portraits: From where we have come: Auschwitz and After tells about the beginnings and the utter extreme of anti-Semitic hatred, moving between the past and the present.

The exhibition is on display at the German Resistance Memorial Center in the special exhibition area on the first floor from January 24, 2023, to June 30, 2023.
