Women in Resistance against National Socialism

A German Resistance Memorial Center exhibition

Women's resistance against the National Socialist dictatorship was varied, highly dangerous, and courageous. Despite this, after 1945 it was not or only insuffciently acknowledged in the German public sphere for decades. In 2019 the German Bundestag expressly recognized and honored "women's courage and achievements in the resistance against the National Socialism" for this reason. The legislators granted funding for a project by the German Resistance Memorial Center Foundation for further study and an exhibition on the topic.

This exhibition shows the r esults of that research. It focuses on the lives o f women activists in the resistance. These portraits indicate the entire social breadth and ideological diversity of the resistance against the Nazi regime. At the same time, the exhibition is a first acknowledgement for many women who were persecuted by the unjust National Socialist judiciary system for their resistance.

The exhibition will be on display in the special exhibition space on our 1st floor from July 10 to November 3, 2024.
